Hiking in to Yellowstone River Trail via shortest connector Blacktail Deer Creek is 3.7m, right on Y River trail for 6.9, several choices to get you east to Tower junction, all adding up to around another 3 miles-I'd look at the Nat'l Geo map if I were you. Also the "Yellowstone Treasures" book describes a 5.1 Hellroaring Creek overlook turnout as a delightful 120 degree panoramic view, short strenuous hike descends 'bout 650' in mi to suspension bridge over river....walk down to confluence w/creek & river...." Maybe then drive to Tower/Roosevelt & do an in/out at Specimen Ridge, 1.2 miles just to the start, or loon will describe the trail up from N.E. entrance Rd, what, near Crystal Creek I think.
