Last winter (2006-07) was very very low precipitation; nonetheless, when we got near the top of Bunsen we were surprised that we had to bushwhack around a couple of leftover drifts along the trail. It was fine, though, we easily made it to the top, and you can see it was completely worth the effort. It's only 2 miles up, so it's just 2/3 has far as to the top of Washburn, and less busy (especially if you go early in the day, as always). The parking lot may be full, but the trail around the base of Bunsen goes on to Osprey Falls, so the people parking in the lot are actually dispersing among several destinations.
