That thingie in the foreground is Soda Butte Cone, not the butte itself, which is a true butte - that is, a large elevated land form, often flat-topped, bigger than a hill but not big enough to be called a mountain, behind the cone to the right in the photo (not really visible). Sode Butte Cone is a thermal scinter cone that still spews some stink, steam, and hot water, you very often see bison hanging around it because of its warmth. It is the last major landmark going towards Northeast Entrance before you come to the parking area/trail head for Trout Lake - if you've not been to Trout Lake, that's a wonderful little hike that should be on your to-do list.

It's also the last area as I drive northeast through Lamar Valley where I watch really closely for wolves. Check it out next time :-)
