I just found this site and it seems to be the mother lode of info so please bear with me. First trip 1958, next 1976, 1985, 2003 all in the fall for short periods. Now a chance to take a motorhome to the park in April..Question is most campgrounds are still closed and I don't know when the roads open. Also I dry camp anywhere I go (don't even need the generator) and it seems the regulations require you to stay in a campground, no overnight in a parking area, etc. At 8 mpg. I prefer to go a short distance, hike and stare at the glory of the place, stay overnight and do the same the next day. Is there any hope for that kind of trip or will I have to stay at an open campground and drive 90 miles and more a day back and forth to see the different areas? I thought being there so early in the year might make a difference in how strict the Rangers are but rules are rules. Your experience and ideas are greatly appreciated. At age 7 the place altered my DNA and for over 50 years the very word Yellowstone or Tetons will bring tears to my eyes. I bet your the same way!
Thanks,
Gary Thomas
