YELLOWSTONE ANNOUNCES FEE FREE DAY

September 15, 2003 ~ PR 03-114

On Saturday, September 20, 2003, Yellowstone National Park Superintendent Suzanne Lewis invites the public to visit and help the park and other agencies celebrate National Public Lands Day. Entrance fees will be waived at Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Normally, one time visitors are charged a $ 20.00 per vehicle or $ 10.00 per person (non-motorized) entrance fee for Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.

Although National Public Lands Day is usually the last Saturday in September, this year it will be held on September 20. On that day, the National Park Service will join other Department of the Interior bureaus and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service to waive entrance fees.

All park entrance fees, including commercial tour entrance fees and transportation entrance fees, will be waived September 20, 2003. In past years, August 25 has been a free entrance day; that will no longer be the case.

"We welcome and encourage the public to visit their public lands," Superintendent Lewis said. "The fee free day is the perfect opportunity to enjoy Yellowstone's beauty, wonder, and inspiration."
